Prof. Muhammad Yunus and Grameen Bank were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize „for their efforts through microcredit to create economic and social development from below.“
He has successfully melded capitalism with social responsibility to create Grameen Bank, a microcredit institution committed to providing small amounts of working capital to the poor for self-employment.
Internationally recognized for his work in poverty alleviation and the empowerment of poor women, Prof. Muhammad Yunus is recipient of numerous national and international awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal.
