The TUM Speakers Series is delighted to announce Bahar Saba & Omar Soliman, two caseworkes from Reprieve UK!
Reprieve is a renowned London based legal action charity founded by human rights lawyer Clive Stafford Smith in 1999. Reprieve investigates, litigates and educates; working on the frontline, Reprieve provides pro bono legal support to those unable to pay for it themselves. Reprieve promotes the rule of law around the world and aims to secure each person’s right to a fair trial.
Bahar will discuss Reprieve’s work on the use of the death penalty in Bahrain. She will particularly focus on due process and fair trial violations in the context of capital trials and will discuss the work Reprieve has done to hold to account, not only the Bahraini authorities, but also the UK government for its support for Bahraini oversight bodies that are complicit in human rights violations.‘
Omar will speak about Reprieve’s death penalty case work in Egypt. This will include highlighting the cases of children facing the death penalty and how Reprieve has successfully engaged with UN human rights mechanisms to highlight these egregious violations of international law.
This event is supported by the German Academic Scholarship Foundation.
